"All that we are is the result of what we have thought.
The mind is everything. What we think we become."
If you are reading this then you are at the part where I'm explaining to you why I wanted to start a program like this one. Well, first off let me give you some background information on who I am and where I come from.
I have been a teacher for 30+ years, I've taught all ages in the fields of Physical Education, Health, Nutrition and Stress Management. I have a BA in Sociology and Physical Education, a Masters in Health Administration and a PHD in Health Promotions and Sports Psychology.
My studies and my development all come from a deep belief in myself because I was told I was never going to amount to anything. You see, I come from a very poor background, where my clothes had to be handmade, food was scarce, my Mother suffered from depression and tried to commit suicide multiple times and there I was trying my hardest to keep it together. It wasn't always easy and I personally know how it feels to be ready to loose all hope and throw in the towel.
I know what it feels like to be the odd one out, being picked on for physical traits that you never thought were ugly until someone said so to your face.
In High School when taking a placement test, I was told by the time I graduated I would be pregnant and would have to give up my studies. This was simply a statistic known to be true given my income level. I remember thinking to myself "You are full of shit! That is not going to happen to me and I will prove you wrong!"
Again in College, I walked through the door of my Counselor's office and was asked why I was even there. That I was lucky they had an open door policy. I remember thinking, "What am I doing here? No support from my family, the school doesn't want me!". But inside I knew, I was in the right place. I decided I would do whatever it took to define my own success.
Is adversity hard?! Yes!
Is it worth it?! ABSOLUTELY!
I can't imagine any other life for myself because it made me see my true calling. To HELP PEOPLE IN THEIR LIFE PATHS, wherever they may be, however they may need it.
I'm a mother of 4 beautiful children who have had their share of adversity and I have learned through them in every way. I am an active LDS member and proud mother of a lesbian daughter who is in a beautiful relationship. I am a proud mother of 3 other children who have chosen their own paths and I have listened to them and trusted their choices.
Life is constantly evolving and the main lesson I have always carried with me is to have an OPEN HEART, to love, laugh, evolve and work hard at what you want to accomplish.
I had to learn alone how to believe in myself and make life happen the way I want it to. But now I can teach others and be there for them so they can feel supported.
I believe I can help YOU. I believe IN YOU!
